Baylor Orthodontic Support Fund
The Baylor Orthodontic Support Fund was established by Baylor College of Dentistry orthodontic alumni. The fund under the control of the Baylor Orthodontic Department allows for initiatives and projects, which would not be possible utilizing College funds alone. The Baylor Oral Health Foundation if very pleased to be associated with the Baylor Orthodontic Support Fund and looks forward to a partnership that will bring many benefits and opportunities.
Robert E. Gaylord Endowed Chair in Orthodontics
In 1986 Baylor College of Dentistry established a fund-raising program to create the Robert E. Gaylord Endowed Chair in Orthodontics. Dr. Gaylord, longtime private practitioner in Dallas, former chair of Baylor College of Dentistry's Department of Orthodontics, Baylor Dental Hall of Fame member, and a past president of the American Association of Orthodontists was instrumental in raising funds to endow the chair. Baylor College of Dentistry alumni contributed $627,000, with additional contributions from Dr. Gaylord's many friends, as well as grants from the Hillcrest Foundation, Communities Foundation of Texas, McDermott Foundation, and the Charles H. Tweed Orthodontic Study Group of Texas. This program brought over $1.2 million to the College in recognition of Dr. Gaylord's efforts.
In 1994, Dr. David Carlson, Chair, Department of Biomedical Sciences and Director, Center for Craniofacial Research and Diagnosis was named to the Robert E. Gaylord Endowed Chair in Orthodontics, the first endowed chair in the school's history.
The Robert E. Gaylord Endowed Chair in Orthodontics was transferred to the Baylor Oral Health Foundation effective with the merger of the College and The Texas A&M University System on September 1, 1996.
Gaylord Endowed Chair Support Fund
The Gaylord Endowed Chair Support Fund was established in 2007 to provide funding for excellence in the Department of Orthodontics at Baylor College of Dentistry.
The Gaylord Clinic Fund was established to provide general assistance to the Department of Orthodontics with particular emphasis on clinic facilities and equipment.
The Tom Matthews Lectureship was established in 2006 to support and sustain an annual lectureship in honor of Dr. Tom Matthews.
