The Paul P. Taylor Program for Pediatric Dentistry at Children's Medical Center
In honor of Paul P. Taylor, DDS, MS an endowment has been established to create The Paul P. Taylor Program for Pediatric Dentistry at Children's Medical Center of Dallas. Children's Medical Center's pediatric dental program traces its roots to a 1928 study conducted by the Public Health Service which determined that the indigent children of Dallas had virtually no access to dental services. To address these unmet needs, a dental clinic was opened at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Dallas. Eventually, the program established clinical affiliation with the Baylor College of Dentistry. This relationship was a direct result of the efforts of Dr. Paul P. Taylor, who served both as the Chief of Pediatric Dentistry at Baylor and the Chief of Dental Services at Children's. Under Dr. Taylor's leadership, the internship program increased in scope and achieved a prestige, which serves as a great source of pride to both institutions. Over the years, Children's dental education program has grown to include a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry and a fellowship in pediatric hospital dentistry, as well as programs in periodontic and endodontic services. In addition to the four teaching programs, Children's provides dental services to medically and behaviorally complex children in support of their medical care - a unique service in our community and region. The Baylor Oral Health Foundation, at its February 26, 1999 board meeting, voted to support The Paul P. Taylor Program for Pediatric Dentistry at Children's with a grant of $50,000.
