Southeast Oral Health Project
The Southeast Oral Health Project was a recipient of the 2009 Crystal Charity Ball. Crystal Charity Ball raises funds to support children's charities in Dallas County. They awarded BOHF $500,000 to partner with other local organizations, Baylor College of Dentistry/Texas A&M Health Science Center, Baylor Oral Health Foundation, Parkland Health and Hospital System, and Community Dental Care to fund a dental clinic in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. The low-income community population is racially diverse.
Following the success of the Sealant Initiative and the Vickery Meadow Oral Health Project, this program will provide screening, prevention, referral and treatment of the community's children. It is estimated that 16,000 children will be served annually with appointments and interactions.
The funding will arrive in February, 2010, and the clinic is scheduled to open in September, 2010. The funds will be used for clinic equipment, including five operatories, dental chairs, digital diagnostic x-ray equipment, the first six months of operations and the second full year of operations. Within two years, it will be fully self-sustaining.
